WW - who?? - 7.1.08

hello y’all. all y’all. all of you all. whatever.

so. it’s whatever wednesday. woo hoo!!!

TheNorEaster finished things last week with the most random question, one that i’m sure solicited zero response because most of y’all didn’t know what he was referring to: Who is going to answer that e-mail I sent out?

my answer? me!!

ok. back to the party.

i will start with a question. someone answers it then leaves another question, and someone answers it and leaves another question.

got it?

first question: which came first, the chicken or the egg?

WW - wal-mart wednesday - 6.25.08

kristiapplesauce left the final question last week: If you had work at either McDonald’s or Wal-mart for the rest of your life which would you choose?

is this even in question? i’d choose wal-mart, of course! why? i could live off of the employee discount! christmas, birthdays, household supplies, groceries, clothes, medicine, glasses, baby pictures, entertainment. it would probably be the best job ever. hmmmmm…. i wonder if they accept resumes?

alrighty! first question: do you like cats or dogs?

rules: answer the last, leave the next.

WW - dreams - 6.18.08

HELLO!!!

I’m SO GLAD you’re HERE!!!

here at whatever wednesday we have a long and random conversation about whatever. you just answer the last question and leave the next question.

Traciejane left our final question last week: what is one of your dreams for your life?

wow. i think my main dream in life is to make a difference in the world - to feel like “i” am contributing - like “i” have something to offer. is that too simple? i don’t know. sometimes i have felt like i’m achieving this dream, but other times i feel like i’m not even close. just depends on how much i’m contributing. (on another note, if you are actually still reading this you know i sometimes leave secret questions. now that the Celtics and Tiger Woods are in the news, i was wondering your thoughts on sports: if you are a fan, leave me a “ha!” in the comments. if you don’t know what all the fuss is about, leave me a “lol” in there somewhere. ok. that’ll do it for today. y’all have fun with the secret question.)

our starter question will be: um… what did you think of Mr. Rogers back in the day?

WW - falling - 6.11.08

WELCOME EVERYONE!

come play - share an answer, ask another question.

last week @ngie ended things: when confronted by unavoidable and imposed change how do you respond?

like chicken little: the sky is falling. the sky is falling!!!!! i don’t heart change. i hate it. really. but, i push through by concocting as many hypothetical outcomes as possible, and then meticulously work out a plan for each scenario. some would call this “worrying” - i call it “preparing”.

OK! starter question: if you’re in a forest, and a tree falls, and it scares you (because everyone knows that a falling tree actually DOES make a sound when it crashes!), and you run in a panic, and then you get lost, what do you do?

WW - remember the hostile takeover? - 5.28.08

while y’all are playing away, i’m stuck behind a desk making sure none of our seminary students go homeless in the fall…. :(

TheNorEaster so WITTILY closed last week’s party with the following: If Tam is taking control of Mandy’s blog, does that mean Tam would never need a dictionairy to know the difference between a fruit and a vegetable…?

for those of you who are new to my and/or tam’s blogs, you might not have picked up on the fact that we were “arch rivals” for quite a while. we were, until we teamed up to create MTTV. anyway. while i was on vacation (thank you if you’re reading this) i asked auntie tam to blog-sit for me. she not-so- single-handedly led a blog revolt. yes. it was ugly. this fiasco is what he’s referring to. (give me a ‘ha!” in the comments if you like chocolate ice-cream and a “random” if you like vanilla) and my answer? she would definitely need a dictionary. unfortunately, she’s not resourceful enough to go find one. she’d just make something up. ;) [[[i heart you tam]]]

ok. starter question: would you rather be eaten alive by mosquitoes or death by sunburning? (can you tell i’m excited about summer!?!) hehehe!

rules and/or expectations: answer the last, leave the next. REFRESH REFRESH REFRESH!!! this is important - because things happen fast around here and somebody might be a faster typer than you. so refresh before you hit submit.

i heart homeless seminarians.

but i heart y’all more.

WW - fruity - 5.21.08

welcome to whatever wednesday.

where WHATEVER is bound to happen.

hope you stick around - it’s always a wild ride. i could barely make out last week’s progression, but it looked like y’all had ton o’ fun without me!

TheNorEaster closed us out last week with the question: what’s the difference between a fruit and a vegetable?

great question! here’s what ask dr. dictionary said: A fruit is actually the sweet, ripened ovary or ovaries of a seed-bearing plant. *we know y’all don’t read these answers* A vegetable, in contrast, is an herbaceous plant cultivated for an edible part (seeds, roots, stems, leaves, bulbs, tubers, or nonsweet fruits). *if you’re reading, say “random!” in the comments* So, to be really nitpicky, a fruit could be a vegetable, but a vegetable could not be a fruit.

ovaries, huh? wow…

now, class, let’s all thank dr. dictionary: “thank you dr. dictionary!”

moving on…

our starter question: is it better to deal with a runny nose by shoving tissue paper into it so it won’t drip, or by wiping/blowing?

the rules: answer the last, leave the next. be sure to hit “refresh” before “submit” because chances are somebody already beat ya to it! or just randomly comment throughout.

go!

1.5 hours to read all these crazy comments

holy.

cow.

y’all are NUTS!!!!!!!!!

and i’m working on forgiving all of you for sabotaging my blog! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i’ve just spent the past hour and a half sitting on my couch laughing my butt off.

THIS is what i come home to!!!!???????

OMIGOSH!

for the record, i have no idea how ANY new readers can make ANY sense of whatever wednesdays. its madding, i tell ya. maddening.

so, yeah, i’m slightly confused about just what all happened around here, but y’all left JUST ENOUGH of a trail for me to figure things out. correct me if i’m wrong:
tam made a VERY WEAK attempt to close out WW - which was actually more effort than i expected of her.
but alece, and the rest of you, had none of it!
then there was much talk of a blog prank/sabotage/surprise.
y’all decided to take over thursday’s post with some random game.
cathi spent an entire evening inviting others to the party.
a few of you stopped by to welcome me home.
then cathi sang me a song while she couldn’t sleep. (yes. i nearly cried. …from laughing so much!)
and.
um.
did i get all that right?

i feel so loved.

and sabotaged.

all at the same time!

suffice it to say, i missed y’all. :)

ww - hookey - 5.14.08

HEY Y’ALL!!!!
i’m on the beach, but we’re still playin. tam is blog-sitting - so do what she says!

the last question was from gchyayles: How many times is it okay to play hookey from work [or school] in a year?

in a year? well. maybe like 3 times. i guess. if you’re ok with it. yeah. or zero. i’m morally obligated to say zero. but let’s go with 3 anyway!

well. that wasn’t too bad.

sorry, school teachers/moms/bosses that might read.

ok. starter question: sunBLOCK - yay or nay?

rules: answer the last one, leave the next one.

and y’all behave. auntie tam will be around to make sure you play nice. and she’ll close things out on wednesday morning ….. IF she remembers - you know, old age & all. ;)

thanks tam!!!!!

ww - my book - 5.7.08

…one day y’all are gonna realize that i don’t shut the party down ’til sometime post-breakfast on thursday mornings. the early morning stragglers always make me laugh when i shut the party down and make y’all go home. (as if…)

OH! sorry -where are my manners!?

  • Welcome to Whatever Wednesday. where we leave a string of comments that talk about whatever.
  • ok. last week Tracie closed with the following (i always answer the last question of the WW): If you were to write a book about your life, what would be the title and why?

“Just A Girl” - because that’s all i am. i actually started blogging to keep some kind of record of my life, you know, in case we might have kids and they might want to know what the world was like before they took over. (is anybody reading this?) i don’t diary. (and i don’t think anyone reads my answer on Wednesdays) so this method of “journaling” seemed to stick. yes, i realize that my blog is not as autobiographical as one would expect, but i sneak a lot of my heart into this little bloggy. if you read carefully, you’ll see it. (ok. ssshhh… listen. if you’re reading - leave a comment that ONLY says “HA!” - it’ll be our little secret. and if you don’t leave a comment, but look to see if anyone else says “HA!” then you’re just mean. and, i know you’re out there.)

  • alright. next on the list - lets explain the rules: answer the last question & leave a new one for the next commenter. oh - and you might wanna hit “refresh” before you leave your comment - that way you’ll know if someone else already beat you to the answer. SLOW TYPERS BEWARE! i’m just sayin…..
  • Now, YOU go!

[cue the party music and disco ball!]

for all three of my new readers

trust me, i can understand why y’all might get so confused that you run screaming from this blog. but, before you do, lemme just say that i REALLY want you to stay.

not because you’re a number on my stat counter.

but because you bring something to my life that i wouldn’t get from the rest of these chatty internets.

one of my favorite phrases is “bloggers are people, too.” amen? and i totally love hearing from people who are different from me and different from the rest of us. so stick around, won’t ya?

so, to make it easier for all parties involved, let me give you a nearly-quick tour of mandythompson.com:

  1. Whatever Wednesday - this is the day that i turn my blog over to the rest of y’all and you go NUTS. the rules: answer the last question and leave a question for the next person. but, be warned, i don’t always follow those rules - sometimes i give up and just start leaving comments in the midst. others will as well. so it can get crazy - but, hey, boring isn’t fun, is it?!
  2. Music Monday - now THIS is my favorite, and also the scariest part of blogging for me. i sometimes throw out a song that i’m working on, and ask for feedback. i’ve recently started this and i can’t tell you how valuable it is for me. i REALLY REALLY want to hear from y’all on these dumb little songs i sing. so, talk to me on mondays! (more of my music on “Mandy’s Music” page)
  3. MTTV - (Mandy Tam TV) - this will take some explaining. Tam and I have this ongoing “sibling rivalry” on the net - even though we’re not family. we TOTALLY heart each other in real life (but, we’ve never actually met. i know. i know. its crazy)… anyway, the rivalry turned into a video feud of us bantering over the usage of “y’all” phrasings. then we decided instead of fighting, we could ban together and start MTTV. and recently threw our first video out there. that’s that.
  4. “Met-On-The-Net” - you’ll see this phrase/name from time to time. there is this unexpected side of blogging that has completely surprised me. i have a friend who i met via the internet, and i refer to her as “met-on-the-net”. doing a side-bar search of that phrase (with hyphens) will bring up a history of this new and strange relationship. and i haven’t revealed who she is. sorry. you won’t find that in the posts.
  5. Topics - there’s no telling what we’ll talk about here. we will laugh. we will cry (well, y’all will cry - i’m not a crier). the topics depend on what kind of mood i’m in, i guess. but, just so you know, you probably don’t want your 8-year-old reading some of this. in my right-side column, do a search for “confess” or “commando” and see what comes up. but don’t say i didn’t warn you.
  6. Blogroll - this is a mish-mash of SOME of my favorite blogs, as well as frequent commenters by name - so you can easily recognize who’s who around here.
  7. Comments - comments are what make this blog. so. say something - preferably on topic. besides, i won’t know who you are if you don’t introduce yourself!
  8. oh - and then there’s me - i’m a worship leader. seminary wife. songwriter (but not necessarily worship songs). i love the Bible, but i’m NO good at praying. and i love my husband. and i used to live in Georgia but now i’m in Massachusetts. and i have a hard time with that. and we don’t know where we’re going when my man graduates at the end of 2009.

anyway, i’m glad you’re here.

let’s practice that whole “commenting” part: tell me who you are!

With her south-Georgia accent still in tact, Mandy writes songs and leads worship near Boston MA, where she dreams of warm sand between her toes while her husband realizes his dream of a seminary education.
